The title and compositional techniques derive from the intent of the violists standing in a full circle array around their audience. Motives, bowing techniques, and groupings move cyclically around the ensemble, sometimes canonically dividing in complex ways and other times bleeding with an emancipation of rhythm. Special attention was also given to which direction musical elements move: sometimes clockwise, counterclockwise, or both simultaneously.
