The piece focuses on the effects of coastal development on salt marshes specific to the coast of Georgia and its barrier islands. In particular, it hopes to comment on the destructive nature of anthropogenic structures like seawalls and docks on genetic diversity within Spartina, a type of marsh cordgrass, and the consequences this may have on the capacity of salt marshes to adapt to climate change and sea level rise.
